Flock Name: The Peepers
Being from Los Angeles, CA, we never had space for chickens. But, when we moved to Charlotte and finally had the space we never had, we thought,”Let’s get some chickens!” We have never looked back since. We started keeping chickens in 2012. We currently have 1 Easter egger (Ginger Loo) and 3 Black Copper Marans (Lavender, Petunia, and Marigold). We also have 2 pullet Barred Rocks (a few months old), who don’t have names yet. The four older girls love to roam around, scratching, finding bugs, and taking dirt baths. We love having their fresh eggs at the ready to cook or bake with, or even share with friends.
Neighborhood: Hidden Valley
I like to call our coop Mid-Century A-frame. The roost and laying boxes are upstairs and the bottom is open to the ground. This allows us to move the coop around our yard with minimal clean-up and extra fertilization. It also has a ladder that can be pulled up or let down, which keeps the ladies secure from predators at night. We built it ourselves and have loved it every since!
